Reading Books

Dear Parent/Carer,

I would firstly like to say a big thank you to you and your children for the hard work you have put in over lock down. We have reassessed the children on return and many of the children have made fantastic progress!

On Monday 15th March, we will be launching the use of the ‘Oxford Owl’ e-books. Although this website has been used previously, we now have access to all of the Read, Write, Inc books that we use in school.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/login?active-tab=students

Each week, in school, your child will be given one reading book matching their ability. The children will receive their second book via the ‘Oxford Owl’ website. Your child’s class teacher will assign the children a book that matches the book they have been reading in their RWI lessons. To access this book you will need to use the unique login details we have given you. These have been stuck inside your child’s reading journal and will contain your child’s name and a password. You will no longer need to use the class login you were previously given. Your child’s login has been linked with the email address you have provided to school, this means you can reset passwords if they are forgotten.

The books given in school will be collected in on a Friday to allow them to be quarantined over the weekend. Unfortunately, if your child does not return a reading book, they will not be given another one until it is returned. We have received 25/150 books that are missing, therefore we cannot afford the loose anymore.

Please treat the e-books the same as all other school books and write in your child’s reading journal when they have read. In the coming weeks, children will also be given a sharing book; this book may not be a book they can read, but a book that can be read to them or to tell a story, this is to encourage a love of reading.

We are trialling the use of ‘Oxford Owl’ e-books so any feedback will be greatly received. Thank you for your continued support.

Best Wishes,

Mrs Gayton

Phonics and Early Reading Leader

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are currently missing 151 Read Write Inc books. These are all books children have taken home. With two weeks to go before a return to school, can you please spend some time looking around your house for these books and return them to school when school re-opens. Our phonics programme cannot take place successfully without these books. Below is a photo of what the books look like.
