Termly Learning Focus

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children have had a fantastic start to their school journey and have settled really well. We have enjoyed sharing our stories, ‘On Sudden Hill’ and ‘Rainbow Fish’.

This term parents’ evening will take place over the phone, please look out for more details. We can’t wait to share what the children have been up to!

This term we will be celebrating everything this time of year has to offer. Diwali, Bonfire night and of course Christmas! We will be continuing with our phonics sessions, learning single sounds and reading these in words. We will be sharing the story ‘Pigs Might Fly’ and sharing poems.

In maths, we will be looking at subitising numbers within 5, composition of numbers to 5, comparing sets, begin to recognise numerals to 5  and continue to develop counting skills.

Across the rest of the curriculum, we are growing our learning in:

Communication and Language

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

Forming recognisable letters

Keeping active

Recognising our feelings

Talk about a story

Learning a poem

Understanding that people have different beliefs and celebrate these in different ways

Mixing primary colours. Use thick and thin brushes.

How can you help your child at home? We are working on independence at school. Please support your child to get ready for school independently. Putting on their own coats and shoes is a good place to start!

Daily reading at home is an important part of your child’s learning and is essential if your child is to progress across the curriculum. Please look at a book with your child at least 3 times per week. Your child’s reading journal must be in school every day so adults can use them to record when they read with the children.

PE will begin on Tuesday 2nd November. Please send your child to school in dark tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt and trainers. They can wear a dark jumper or their usual school jumper.
