Termly Learning Focus

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 2 was a fantastic term in Reception; we have had a great time learning and exploring through play. We enjoyed reading ‘Whatever Next’ and ‘How to catch a Star’ and have been continuing to practice writing our sounds. In Maths, we have been exploring shapes, numbers to 5, and time.

Across the curriculum, we have been learning about Space, Diwali and how people celebrate Christmas. The children should hopefully be able to tell you why Christians celebrate Christmas!

This term we will be learning many new things:

We will be learning about fairy tales and exploring lots of different fairy tale stories. Children are progressing well learning their sounds and they are now beginning to read these sounds in words, and write some simple words.

In Maths we will be working hard at introducing zero, comparing mass and capacity, exploring 6, 7 & 8 and making pairs.

Across the rest of the curriculum, we are growing our learning in:

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and Design

Learning Rhymes

Correct letter formation

How to be a good friend

Comparing characters from stories

Joining techniques and junk modelling

You will now find two reading books in your child’s journal, one of these books is a ‘sharing book’ which you can read to your child and they can read to you. The other book supports the sounds your child has been learning, practice spotting sounds in words and blending the sounds together. We will collect reading journals in every Friday and redistribute them with new books the following Monday.

Please can we ask that the children have a spare set of clothes in school, as you are aware our outdoor area can get very muddy and the children love to play in the mud, we have a limited supply of spare clothes in school. Can we also request that if your child comes home wearing school clothes that they are washed and returned at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
