Termly Learning Focus

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 1 was a fantastic term in Year 4, we are so proud of how the children are adapting to the new normal. We enjoyed reading The Iron Man and we wrote super stories about it, and composed letters to an author about the importance of children reading. In Maths, we completed learning on Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, and Length and Perimeter.

Across the curriculum we jumped back in History to the Stone Age, and in Science developed our understanding of Rocks.  We enjoyed drawing scientifically accurate pictures of fossils, and finding out about the hunter gatherers in the Stone Age.

This term we will be learning many new things:

In Literacy we are exploring the poem the Sound Collector by Roger McGough, and creating poems about colour which have the same rhyming pattern. We are also looking at the text Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp by Philip Pullman, and we will be using what we learn from the author to write our own alternative version.

In maths we are working hard at Multiplication and Division.

Across the rest of the curriculum, we are growing our learning in:

Science

Humanities

Art/Design Technology

Computing

Music

PE

Light

Geography:

Europe

DT: Juggling Balls

Audio Recording

Listening and appreciating to music

Orienteering

In addition, we will be including drama within our English, which is always very exciting to do. The children will also get to take their juggling balls home to practise their skills with their family. We look forward to the pictures which will be sent to us!

Daily reading at home remains an important part of your child’s learning and is essential if your child is to progress across the curriculum. Reading journals must be in school every day so adults can use them to record when they read with the children. Children are required to complete the child’s comments section.

Homework engagement will be checked every Friday by an adult in their class. Homework this term will continue to just be Spelling Shed, TT Rockstars and Reading 3X a week.

P.E will take place on a Wednesday this term for both classes, and the children are required to come into school already wearing their PE kit. Please note these days may change but you will be given notice.

In case of timetable changes P.E kits are required by all children to be ready and available for them to wear into school. This consists of a pair of trainers/plimsolls, a different white t-shirt other than their school t-shirt, dark coloured shorts/jogging bottoms and a jumper. Children with long hair will be expected to tie it up for PE due to health and safety reasons and children with earrings should ensure that they are removed on PE days.
