Termly Learning Focus

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 1 was a fantastic term in Year 2, we are so proud of how the children are adapting to the new normal. We enjoyed reading ‘Disco Kitchen,’ ‘Paddington at the zoo’ and ‘Can’t you sleep little bear’ as our class readers throughout the term.  We have been developing our reading, spelling and writing as part of our daily Read Write Inc. lessons.

In Maths, we have learned about the value of numbers and begun to develop our understanding of solving addition and subtraction calculations.

Across the curriculum, in History, we enjoyed exploring the life of  Queen Elizabeth II and in art discovering and recreating ancient art including; ancient paint using mud, butter/lard and water, as well as sculptures using the technique of etching.

This term we will be learning many new things:

Our class reader this term is ‘The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me,’ by Roald Dahl. We are continuing with our RWI lessons and towards the end of the term, exploring a short amination called ‘The Christmas Star’ to inspire our writing.

In maths we are working hard at continuing to deepen our understanding of addition and subtraction, and learning about money. Towards the end of the term, we will be solving multiplication calculations.

Across the rest of the curriculum, we are growing our learning in:

Design Technology

Humans including Animals

History – The Gunpowder Plot

Sewing – Design and make a teddy’s beach mat.

Digital painting

Listening project – listening to and exploring musical pieces.

Real PE – Social

Daily reading at home remains an important part of your child’s learning and is essential if your child is to progress across the curriculum. Reading journals must be in school every day so adults can use them to record when they read with the children.

Homework engagement will be checked every Friday by an adult in their class. Homework this term will continue to be Spelling Shed, TT Rockstars and Reading 3X a week.

P.E will take place on a Wednesday in 2SM and Friday in 2SG this term. All children need to wear their PE kits to school on these days. This consists of a pair of trainers/plimsolls, a different white t-shirt other than their school t-shirt, dark coloured shorts/jogging bottoms and a jumper. Children with long hair will be expected to tie it up for PE due to health and safety reasons and children with earrings should ensure that they are removed on PE days. Please note these days may change but you will be given notice.
