Termly Learning Focus

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 1 was a fantastic term in Reception, we are so proud of how the children have adapted to school life. We enjoyed reading Room on the Broom, Pumpkin Soup and A Squash and a Squeeze and have been practicing writing our names and writing some sounds. In Maths, we have been comparing amounts, exploring patterns, matching and sorting, and comparing size, weight and capacity.

Across the curriculum, we have been learning the routines of the school day, getting to know each other.

This term we will be learning many new things:

At the moment the children are really interested in ‘Space’, so we have been exploring this with themed activities.    Children are progressing well learning their sounds and they are now beginning to read these sounds in words.

In maths we are working hard at representing the numbers to 5, Recognising shapes, Positional Language and Time

Across the rest of the curriculum, we are growing our learning in:

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and Design

Listening in Small Groups

Using playground equipment including bikes

Understanding Our Feelings

Exploring Diwali

Using different medias (eg paint, clay, chalk)

In addition, we will begin to learn about Christmas how it is celebrated.

You will now find two reading books in your child’s journal, one of these books is a ‘sharing book’ which you can read to your child and they can ready to you. The other book supports the sounds your child has been learning, practice spotting sounds in words and blending the sounds together. We will collect reading journals in every Friday and redistributing them with new books the following Monday.
