Home Learning

Year 5, as well as the messages from us, and the tasks we have given you for home learning, there are 3 more things that can either replace or be extra to your timetable.

  1.        Maths – Daily lessons and home learning videos can be found at - https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/
  2.        PE - Every Morning at 9:00am, Jo Wicks (The Body Coach) will be doing free PE lessons and workouts on his YouTube channel -  https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1
  3.        Literacy - At 9:45, there will be sentence stacking lessons (the same as our Literacy lessons) on Jane Considine’s youtube channel  - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuaq74gHBALPcb1nbJ1EF2Q. Like we do in class, she will be helping you write a story in chunks.
  4. 11:00 am -  Elevenses with The World of David Walliams. Every day, David Walliams will read a free audio story.

You could write a summary of what he has read, draw a storymap or picture of what he is describing, list key adjectives and verbs or just simply listen and enjoy!

Good Morning and Happy Friday!

The days seem to be flying by and it’s been lovely to see some of your wonderful work coming through.

Your maths lesson today to finish the week off is based on Adding and subtracting fractions.

Things to remember when you are completing the questions:

1.Convert your fractions so they have the same denominator.

2.When adding or subtracting, the denominator stays the same.

For English today you are writing the part of the story when it’s all over, Torak defeated the bear.

Write his journey back down the mountain to Fa’s grave to tell him he has fulfilled his promise!

You are all doing such an amazing job and Mrs Smithies and Mr Carroll love hearing from you

Have a lovely weekend

Mrs Smithies and Mr Carroll

Good morning Year 5

Its another beautiful day today  so make sure you spend some time outside enjoying the sun. We have had some lovely pictures of helping in the garden. Please keep them coming!

In Maths today there will be fraction challenges from this week. You have been using equivalent fractions, converting between improper and mixed fractions and comparing and ordering fractions. Remember to find a common denominator to help you when solving the challenges!

For your English activity you have to think about the Nanuak and handing it over to the bear. You have been given an opening and closing sentence to help structure you’re writing. The ones we have received so far have been amazing, full of description and tension.

We have seen some very creative bug hotels so far! Keep sending your pictures in!

Keep in touch and stay safe

Good morning,

Today is forecast to be brilliant sunshine so make sure you spend some time outside enjoying it, remember to stay safe aswell.

Your maths activity today is comparing and ordering fractions but don’t forget to change the denominators so that they are all the same before you start ordering them.

For your English activity you have to think about the Nanuak and handing it over to the bear. You have been given an opening and closing sentence to help structure you’re writing.

Today’s reading activity is based on non fiction. See what non fiction you can find to read around the house and discuss the layout of the text with an adult.

It seems lots of you have already been busy with your curriculum task this week as we have already seen some bug hotels that have been sent through on email. These look fantastic and Mr Carroll and Mrs Smithies love seeing your work.

Here is a little brain teaser to get you thinking - the question is how many squares can you see?

Keep in touch and stay safe

Good morning Year 5
We hope the new week of home learning started off well.

Todays Bitesize lesson is converting improper fractions to mixed fractions which we have done a lot on in class. In class we used bar models to show this – here is an example which you can try, and use to help you.

Your English task if you haven’t done it is all about Torak’s journey up the mountain trail. This is a really good chance for you to use powerful vocabulary.  Below is a picture to help you gather some vocabulary.

Have a lovely day and we are looking forward to hearing from you.

Good Morning Year 5,

It's the start of another week and this week we should have some lovely weather back so make the most of getting outside.

Today your maths task is based on equivalent fractions. Remember that equivalent means identical or equal in value.

Your English task is set for two days and is about Torak's journey up the mountain with wolf. You have been given an opening sentence and an ending sentence to help you out.

This week your curriculum project is based on Science and Design and technology and involves bug hotels.

Mrs Smithies and Mr Carroll are looking forward to hearing from you this week to see what you have been up to.
