Geography

Geography at Croyland is designed to inspire our pupils to have a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people

The National Curriculum states that Geography helps pupils to develop knowledge about the world, the United Kingdom and their locality, as well as understand basic subject-specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography and begin to use geographical skills, including first-hand observation, to enhance their locational awareness. As children progress through their schooling they extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom and Europe, North and South America.

We are revisiting our long term plan and are now using the Chris Quigley knowledge webs to develop a new long term plan and work on the principle that the curriculum needs and a ‘forwards and backwards’ approach.  This gives children the opportunity to build on previously learnt knowledge and revisit concepts and understanding.

By the end of each milestone (Year 1/Year 2, Year 3/Year 4, Year 5/Year 6), the goal is for children to display sustained mastery, or for some children a greater depth of understanding.
