Croyland’s trip to Wembley

On Friday 9th October 2015, 40 children from KS2, and 9 staff members travelled to Wembley stadium to watch England take on Estonia at Football. The traffic was clear as we travelled to London in our smart, black bus, and soon we were at the home of Football! The arches lit up in the night’s sky, and the atmosphere around the ground was electric as people began to take to their seats. Wembley was very modern, and we even had escalators, that helped us get to our seats!

The Wembley staff were very friendly and helpful and helped us to our seats after we had entered the stadium. Once at our seats, we could take in the amazing atmosphere, as the stadium was filling up very quickly. As a school, we were sat directly behind one of the goals. The view was amazing, and we could see all the players clearly. There was a huge roar as the whistle to start the game was blown, England started well and attacked from the first whistle. Ross Barkley was looking very confident and creative in midfield, and Raheem Sterling was so quick, and tricky on the wing! England scored just before half-time! It was Theo Walcott with a good finish after a superb ball from Ross Barkley.

During the half time break there was entertainment such as penalty shoot outs and quizzes on the big screens, which we all enjoyed. The second half began and England started to attack again, Harry Kane, and Gary Cahill went close. However, Estonia managed to defend well until Raheem Sterling scored a great counter attacking second goal for England! The final whistle went and we all gave England a loud cheer, they had played well and managed to qualify for Euro 2016.

After the game we returned to the bus, the journey home seemed so short after all the excitement of the evening and we were back in Wellingborough in no time.

Croyland’s Year 5 Re-enact The Christmas Truce of 1914!

This term, 5LD and 5CC have been having a great time re-enacting The Famous Christmas Truce Football match from World War 1.  Children have been working hard to display values that soldiers in World War 1 displayed. In particular, we have been looking at the values of RESPECT, FRIENDSHIP, HONESTY and TEAMWORK. We have also looked at the spirit of Christmas, and the importance of sharing with others. A big well done to all Year 5’s for doing so well with this topic. Keep it up!
